The Definition and Evolution of the Barbershop Style

In this course, Dan Wessler will break down the official BHS Definition of the Barbershop Style to its various elements, exploring each one and helping the students to discover the ways in which a given arrangement can exist on a spectrum between "barbershop" and "not barbershop." Students will spend much time looking at barbershop charts, listening to performances of arrangements, and class discussion of the perspectives that result from characterizing a barbershop arrangement in terms of its "stylistic purity."
